For more than 30 years, Cashiers has championed the need for safe, connected walkability. Today, guided by a master plan from award-winning Equinox Environmental, WALK CASHIERS—a partnership of the Cashiers Area Chamber of Commerce, Jackson County, and Vision Cashiers—is expanding the Cashiers Greenway Ramble (CGR).
This work directly aligns with the 2022 Urban Land Institute (ULI) Advisory Report, which identified a connected network of pathways, sidewalks, and trails as critical to Cashiers’ future.
NOW OPEN: 2.3 MIILES OF TRAIL
An expanded CGR of 5+ miles will link businesses, youth spaces, and cultural assets, reducing congestion and providing safe passage for residents, shoppers, students, and tourists across Cashiers.
The master plan reflects “smart village” features, including WiFi, lighting, 911 access, pocket parks, educational features, public art, crosswalks, and informational kiosks.
Proposed paths offer variety, including universally/ADA accessible paths for those with limited abilities, casual strolling trails, and challenging fitness opportunities.
One Step at a Time:

Beyond Walkability: Building Community Connectivity
Drives vitality: Supports local businesses through partnerships like the Cashiers Area Chamber of Commerce Ramble Retailers program. Inspires community wellness by offering ample room for outdoor recreation and healthier lifestyles. The Thomas Taulbee Memorial Entrance at the Cashiers Area Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center, located on HWY 64 west of the crossroads, features an informational kiosk offering trail maps and a local shopping/dining guide.
Sustains beauty: Encourages recreational use of natural areas and promotes environmental stewardship utilizing native plant species and preserving greenspaces with intentional landscaping offering arbors, benches, and pocket parks.
Strengthens sense of place: Creates shared spaces that reflect Cashiers’ character through public art, pocket parks, and educational waysides offering messaging celebrating Cashiers’ biodiversity, ecotourism, and history.
The Future We’re Walking Toward
For decades, community members have dreamed of a walking trail connecting the heart of Cashiers. Today, WALK CASHIERS is closer than ever to making that dream a reality.

We’ve raised $3.1M of the $4M needed to complete the trail.
Will you help make Cashiers walkable?
To inform WALK CASHIERS of a multi-year donor commitment, email Paul Robshaw HERE.
Your donation matters! Because Cashiers is unincorporated and relies on private license use agreements, the CGR does not easily qualify for traditional state and federal trail funding. Donations are critical. Additional funds go toward expanding into new phases, making the CGR an increasingly accessible tool for connecting Cashiers.
Private license use agreements are cost-free, philanthropic local contractors are working at cost, and developers have committed to connect their walking trails to the CGR, furthering donor dollars.
